Best known for serving as Florida’s governor beginning in
1998 until 2007 is a politician that I can see as having the opportunity to run
in the 2016 presidential election, which is Jeb Bush. Jeb Bush is originally
from Texas. His father is George H. W. Bush, or more formally known as the 41st
president of the United States, along with his mother being Barbra Bush. His
older brother George W. Bush was also president of the United States from
2000-2008.
Jeb has had a continued interest though
in public service since his high school years, when he visited Mexico that then
led him to the degree he wanted to seek and also a person that would become
significant in his life later on. Jeb then attended the University of Texas
where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in Latin American affairs. Just a year
after finishing college he married Columbia Garncia Gallo, who he met when he
visited Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico during high school. The couple then had three
children, which are George P., Noelle, and John “Jebby” Jr. Bush.
Although Jeb Bush has had the
exposure to national Republican politics through close family members, he eventually
made a political life for himself. Becoming the chairman of the Dade County
Republican Party is what really launched a series of positions he has had the
chance to hold to build his political experience. Following the 1986 election,
he was given the opportunity to become Florida’s commerce secretary, which he
held until 1988. Although he lost to incumbent Lawton Chiles, Jeb still won the
nomination for governor within the Republican Party in 1994. His connections
with the Hispanic community allowed him to finally become the governor of
Florida in 1998. Jeb then beat the odds in 2002 and was the first Republican to
be re-elected in Florida.
Looking beyond the titles though
that Jeb has held, he has done so much more that makes him qualified to potentially
be the 45th president of the United States. Even before governor, he
was able to work on his father’s presidential campaign while at the same time
managing the first Cuban-American Congressman’s campaign, which shows how well
he is able to handle many tasks at once. Jeb also dedicated his time to
becoming deeply involved in charities within Florida. He was able to be the
founder of the public policy think-tank, known as The Foundation for Florida’s
Future, while being a co-founder to the first charter school in Florida, and
lastly starting the “One Florida” initiative. Jeb Bush has been given several
opportunities to do more, such as being given the offer to become the
commissioner for the NFL, but he only dedicates his time to what he knows he
can put all of his effort into and finishes it effectively and efficiently.
Potentially going into the 2016
campaign, individuals need to know that Jeb Bush is the son and brother of
former president’s of the United States. Beyond that though it is essential to
understand his connections and ties that he has to the Hispanic community. Lastly,
Jeb’s continuous involvement in the issue of education is another aspect that
contributes to his potential within the 2016 campaign. By 2016, the nation
could possibly be looking at a third Bush to take the role of president of the
United States.

Although, he has made a name for himself in the political world, I fear it will be difficult for him to completely separate himself from the Bush reputation. Do you think he will want to distance himself from the Bush reputation, or do you think he will want to embrace it? Do you think that the Bush name will help or hurt him if he were to run?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think that he will want to distance himself in certain situations from the Bush reputation and also embrace it in other times, because at the end of each day he will always be a Bush. Having the Bush name might help him because people are already familiar with the name, but it could also hurt him because not everyone likes what the last two Bush's did while they were in office and that could then effect Jeb negatively when running next year.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you fully that in his speech he wasn't trying to just touch on foreign policy but also make claims and take positions on what he thinks about education, and economy. He was sort of making it so people could see what he would do if he were elected.
ReplyDeleteIf the 2016 has a reoccurring Clinton/Bush situation, who do you think will be successful?
